Today we drove for about 3 hours to the Hannover region. We stayed at a little town called Vilsen.

On the way, we went to a farm museum which has been set up to demonstrate what life would have been like for our ancestors.

There was a castle ruin on the same site as the museum and dates back to the early 14th century. It belonged to the bishop of Minden. Originally it had towers and a mote. They upkept it for a while but it got increasingly hard and expensive. Finally it was struck by lightening in the 1800s and they gave up.
I found a pen for Johanna (my sister) in a service station. It says "she has a one in a million personality".
We are staying 2 nights now in an old farmhouse which has been renovated nicely into a bed and breakfast.
On the journey we saw lots of wind turbines and old windmills.
There are huge old farmhouses very close to the road.
Cooler today, 18 degrees and raining.
By the way my fever went away yesterday and I've been fine now since.
